Want a better credit score? Pay your ‘router bill.’

Excellent Credit Score

A friend shared a story with me. She recently completed her graduate studies in the U. S and upon graduation moved out of her apartment. She was supposed to return a router to the cable company so she called them several times to pick up but they never did whilst she was there. She left the country but returned after a while to work and life appeared to be just great.  Some years later, she wanted to apply for a credit card that offered better terms than the one she had and then she noticed that she was being charged for the router still although she was completely unaware. Those unpaid charges for the router had been accumulating on her credit record leaving her with a low credit score.

Guess what? She was upset. After all she had called them to come pick up and they never did...

Rest!!!

Find rest my soul

A friend spoke to me about how she was feeling yesterday. She had prayed, fasted and trusted God and it seemed nothing was happening. God gave me a word for her and I am sharing it with everyone who may feel like her right now.

I have been studying the story of Genesis and the story of Joseph stuck with me. He suffered pain many times; rejection when his brothers sold him into slavery and the arduous journey to Egypt for starters. Then he found peace at the home of the Potiphar’s but only for a while. He obeyed God and chose not to have an affair with Mrs. Potiphar and instead of that to bring him rest, it sent Him to prison.

Hmm… but the bible says that the presence of God was with Joseph and he prospered. He was a slave in Egypt, from being a favored son, and yet he prospered...

Embrace Change 1

Happy New Year!!! Welcome to my blog. Thank you all for reading , commenting and sharing my life’s lessons. I’m always so glad to know they bless you in spite of me. In 2016, by God’s grace we will update more regularly and make some changes so watch out!

I have an adorable cousin who has a lovely mane in every sense of the word. She has a rich fulllllll head of hair. Those types that you absolutely admire which more often than not give the owners pure grief at the thought of taking out braids or having the hair made. She would cry at the pain and your heart would almost break. She’s had this hair challenge since she was a child and people like her are the reason I think relaxers were introduced for women of color. I tell you! We shall call her Vi...

jerusalem to antioch

I remember a cousin from way back; she wanted to study medicine and got admitted to study microbiology. She was unable to switch courses after the first year so she finished her first degree. She was exceptional and graduated top of her class and there were conversations around getting an M.Sc. and building a career there. But it burned in her heart that she was called to become a doctor so she went back to school to study medicine and went on to become a consultant. She was not tempted to stop midway because she found it successful. Rather, against all odds, and in spite of how much longer it would cost her in school, she forged ahead in pursuit of her dream.

There is a similar story in the book of Acts...

The Elijah Reaction

elijah reaction 1

So Jezebel sent a message to Elijah. She said, “You can be sure that I will kill you, just as I killed the other prophets. I’ll do it by this time tomorrow.” – 1 Kings 19:2a

On the top of Mount Carmel, God sent fire to burn up the soaking wet sacrifice and the altar on which it was placed and Elijah killed the 300 prophets of Baal, thus God proved to everyone in Israel that He was the one true, living God. All the people watching fell to their knees and shouted praises to God. Jezebel was not on Mount Carmel to witness what God did, but her husband, King Ahab, told her everything that happened. This infuriated Jezebel, so she sent a message to Elijah. She said, “You can be sure that I will kill you, just as I killed the other prophets. I’ll do it by this time tomorrow.”

For over three year...

Bezalel and Oholiab

The Lord said to Moses, “See, I have chosen Bezalel son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah, and I have filled him with the spirit of God, with skill, ability and knowledge in all kinds of crafts– to make artistic designs for work in gold, silver, and bronze, to cut and set stones, to work in wood, and to engage in all kinds of craftsmanship.  Moreover, I have appointed Oholiab son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan to help him.  Also I have given skill to all the craftsmen to make everything I have commanded you.”Exodus 31:1-6

At the time this scripture was written, Israel in its entirety had come to acknowledge the office of priesthood and the anointing of God upon the lives of Moses, Aaron, Miriam, and even Joshua...

The Push Start Button!

push start

If the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?” Psalm 11:3

Sometime ago, I drove a car with a push start ignition for the first time, and yes it was a really cool drive (I can already imagine you laughing). I was at my uncle’s and he asked me to help fill his gas tank. He handed me the key; the car in question is one of those really huge jeeps. I really felt like ‘dodging’ (I don’t enjoy driving very much, and driving big vehicles scare me), but I couldn’t. Besides, he said ‘please’ so many times that I had no choice but to accede to his request. So I had my cousin tag along and we drove to the station, having a really nice time gisting and playing music on the way...

The Bus Driver

bus driver 1

Yesterday I remembered a story Pastor Poju once shared. My big sister, Salt, shared the CD with me in January 2014, and yesterday God brought it to my memory. Since it has been on my spirit all day, I decided to share it today.

The Bus Driver!

One morning, an old experienced man who had lived in the same neighborhood for a long time and commuted daily via bus on the same route made his way to the bus stop and waited for the bus. Not too long afterwards, he was joined by a little boy. The boy got to the bust stop and walked a little farther down and stood. He was obviously also waiting for the same bus as the old man.

The Old Man was a good man and he called out to the young boy...

triple 1

Today,  in the LOUD IT series, I’m sharing my sistafriend Adaeze’s testimony. If you missed the previous posts, please check them out here. Faith in the Faithfulness of God, He turned it, and Transformation Agenda.

“Growing up as an only daughter with three brothers, I was somewhat spoilt. My parents and brothers doted on me and my perception of life was simple. My adult life started great as well. I was a fun spirited young woman who had everything going well for her; got a great job within 3 months or so of completing the mandatory youth service in a choice bank, and just had things falling step by step into place based on the picture I had drawn for myself. I’m sure you know that place where everything just feels picture perfect...

Make that Move!

motion light

My uncle has motion detector light bulbs installed at his residence and the lights come on when there is movement around them. It is almost magical; as I park my car and step out, the security light just by the front door comes on and goes off soon after I make my way in, and provided there is power, the lights respond to me as I move through the house. However, I realized that if I stayed in one place without movement, even though the light had responded to my previous movement, it would go off. So I could be right underneath the motion sensitive light bulb but I would be in darkness because I stopped moving. Mid staircase, there is another of such bulbs, it doesn’t come on until I take one step onto the staircase, then and only then does the indicator pick my body warmth. Sometimes, it is dark at the bottom of the staircase so I am unable to see the entire staircase until I take a step onto the first step and move into the darkness. I can then see the light for the rest of the journey because the lights come on.

The Reward of Consistency

consistency1

Welcome to February!

How was January for you? For many of us, January was a month of decisions, of fasting, praying and trusting God, generally just positioning ourselves for the year, and making the required changes.

However, I am sharing today about the lethargy that tends to set in when we do not see immediate results. Have you ever tried to axe down a tree? You keep hitting it in the same place with the same axe and it looks like nothing is happening.

But you know what?

After all those hits in the same place, it simply takes a final hit to bring the tree down. The axe hit that brings down the tree is not the strongest hit; it is simply the most consistent hit. So, don’t stop hitting the tree simply because you can’t see the tree falling down. Keep at it…stay consistent.

the word of God

Happy New Year Everyone!!!

So sorry it is coming a little late in the year. But better late than never, yes? Welcome to 2015!

First thing that comes to my spirit is this verse: “Many will be purified, cleansed, and refined by these trials. But the wicked will continue in their wickedness, and none of them will understand. Only those who are wise will know what it means” (NLT Rev. 12:10). What this means is that there is a point where things that will happen will make sense only to the wise, the ones that have Jesus on the inside because Jesus is the very wisdom of God (1 Cor. 1:24). We will just know regardless that God has us covered.

The joy of the Lord is your strength!

the joy

A few weekends ago, I had several family commitments in addition to an already tightly packed schedule. It was just a miracle that I made it through and ticked all the boxes. I managed to get in a few hours of sleep and was wondering how I was going to face the week with that significant sleep deficit. I was physically drained. However, I showed up at work on Monday morning and everyone seemed to have amazing compliments about how rested I looked. I was surprised because although I didn’t feel tired and exhausted, I didn’t expect to look rested.

As I pondered on the one comment too many, God brought Neh. 8:10b back to me. It says, ‘…the joy of the Lord is my strength...

Mr Asemota had two daughters, Esosa and Eghosa. He loved them both very much, especially because his wife had died when they were very young so his life revolved around them. Whatever they wanted, he gave, all they had to do was ask. He ensured they were disciplined though and He made time for them. Everyone knew how special his daughters were to him, his PA, staff and business partners all knew his standing instruction. For him, family came first, no matter how busy or high profile the meeting was, a call from either of the girls was a priority. Mr. Asemota would take their calls wherever in the world he was.  He had built an amazing business over the years and with the help of friends and family, had raised his two lovely daughters very well...

Mary & Martha

Mary and Martha

I have addressed the story of Mary and Martha before, see it  here One Thing..,  today however, I’m taking another perspective. We are going deeper. Someone say ‘deeper’. Okay, now I am sure that we are all here. :-)

First mention we have of Mary and Martha of Bethany and their brother Lazarus is in Luke 10.The bible records they were Jesus’ friends and he was visiting their home. Whilst Martha was busy making sure supper was ready, Mary sat at Jesus’ feet listening to him and learning about him.

We often flip this story when we share about ‘ONE THING being needful,’ and more often than not, people come away thinking that relationship/intimacy with Christ such as Mary had is mutually exclusive to service which Martha showed.

Now, truly, does one ever have guests and not provide for t...

Say No to ‘Normal’

“We really don’t know. God is the one that makes things work”

I was chatting with a friend some days ago; we had spoken a little about a relationship of mine that did not work out. I told him how It really felt like he was good for me, yet it still didn’t work out. At some point, I lost my peace and dragged on until I finally let go. I said to my friend, I may have felt that he was good for me but he wasn’t God’s best for me, else the relationship would have worked out.

The friend I was chatting with answered  “We don’t even know, God is the one that makes all things work out. Some things we think are best for us – like Samuel thought about Saul – turn out to be the very worst.”
That got me thinking...

I know

For we do not have an high priest that cannot be touched with the feelings of our infirmities ; but one that has been in all points tempted as we are; yet without sin (Heb 4:15)

This post is inspired by a statement by Mike DeVries, and he says that there are perhaps no two more powerful words than the words “I know.”  Think about it, how we long to hear the words I know.  Sometimes amidst my pain, I truly long for the words ‘I know’ and I am sure you do too.

I know what you’re going through.

I know what it is like.

I know how you are feeling.

I know.

Timing is everything!

Timing is Everything

You have probably heard the phrase, “Timing is everything,” many times. And there is indeed a great deal of truth in that statement. Think about it; the difference between a good joke and a bad one is a person’s sense of timing. An appropriate pause makes a joke, while an inappropriate pause can kill the same joke. Imagine asking a favor when someone is under a lot of stress or angry. Timing is also very essential in cooking; a hamburger on the grill is raw meat if cooked for too little time and a clump of charcoal if it is cooked too long. The list is endless.

Timing is indeed everything!

Timing is everything 1

baby shower

On Sunday, I attended a surprise baby shower for my friend. She had trusted God alongside her husband for this baby for a number of years and now God showed up, so it was a gathering of very excited friends, celebrating our friend and thanking God on her behalf. As I sat there excited for her alongside several other friends, one thing that everyone kept saying was how real she was about the pain she felt when she was waiting and how encouraging it was to know beyond Christianese that she felt weary sometimes. She is one of the most cheerful people I know but she was real about her struggle without carrying it on her head...

Excellence

Excellence

My thought for today is about excellence.

What is excellence?  “Excellence refers to the quality of being outstanding or extremely good.” Synonyms for excellence include distinction, quality, high quality, superiority, brilliance, greatness, merit, calibre, eminence, pre-eminence, supremacy, peerlessness, transcendence,” value and worth.

Excellence 1

What comes to you when you think about excellence? You think about superb finishing, tasteful presentation, skillful delivery, informed decisions, clarity. How do you know one who excels in his work? Think excellent craftsmanship. Recently I had cause to watch some Chinese craftsmen work at a construction site in Nigeria.  All I saw was ‘excellence’...
